Third Time Lucky For SNL’s Bowen Yang At The Emmys?

Saturday Night Live writer and performer Bowen Yang has been predicted as a potential winner at the upcoming Emmys, which will be taking place later this year.
Having already been nominated twice in previous years, Yang is rumoured to be in with a shot at winning an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series Commentary. If this is the case, he would be just the fifth SNL Player to win an Emmy for Acting.
In spite of the Saturday night comedy staple having been on the air since 1975, with previous performers going on to become huge stars over the years, only four other cast members have previously won Emmys for their acting. Yang was the first to be put forward for such an award, when previously nominated back in 2021.
Yang, an Australian-born comedian and podcaster, first joined the cast of SNL as a writer back in 2018, before then going on to work as a performer one year later. Yang has quickly become one of the most prominent rising stars amongst SNL’s cast, having gone viral thanks to his various skits and dance routines mocking celebrities such as Chappell Roan, as well as various political figures – including JD Vance, and Kim Jong Un. He has also recently appeared in the globally successful Wicked movie, as well as several LGBTQI+ themed romantic comedies and the pop-culture podcast Las Culturistas.
After two previous nominations, it remains to be seen whether Yang will be successful in winning the Emmy this time around. Ahead of him still in the predictions are The Bear star Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who is a two-time consecutive Emmy winner, followed by Paul W. Downs, Ike Barinholtz, and Tyler James Williams.
This year’s Emmys Awards are to be held in September, with the nominations expected to be confirmed on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
