Broadcast: Media24’s Afrikaans TV channel VIA added a new morning show in English and Afrikaans, Goeiemore, Good Morning, from Monday, April 14, 2025. The show will be produced by Cooler Box Brothers with Barry Pretorius as an executive producer and director George Van Rooyen. 

George van Rooyen says "I have worked with Rozanne and Pieter before and know them as extremely hard workers with great personalities, and Elsa will round off our trio perfectly. This dynamic team is ready to make a lasting impression."

Elsa Esterhuizen says "Goeiemôre, Good Morning is an interesting and fresh take on a South African breakfast show – especially because both Afrikaans and English viewers will be able to join us in the mornings".

The SABC News TV news channel adjusted its news schedule, having channel anchor Thembekile Mrototo for The Week Ahead on Sundays from noon to 3:00 p.m. and Week in Review on Saturdays from noon to 3:00 p.m. Other shows that have been adjusted include Morning Live, The Agenda, On Point, SA Today, The Full View, Face the Nation, The Late Edition, and Prime News.

Kristin Pierce announced her departure from the Milwaukee ABC affiliate WISN after three years at the station. Pierce originally joined the station in March 2022 as a weekend evening news anchor and was later promoted to co-anchor of the 4 and 5 p.m. newscast.

“I’ve made a lot of sacrifices for a career I’m passionate about,” she wrote. “In return, I’ve missed a lot. I don’t want to miss much else. Life is short and time is everything. I want more time with those I love the most.”

Rekha Muddaraj announced on social media her departure from Houston CBS affiliate KHOU after 13 years. Muddaraj anchored the 4 p.m. newscast.

​​“I’m not leaving Houston! It’s home. But I’m excited to take a breather and catch up with my supportive husband, sweet girls, my incredible parents and sister, and family and friends who have graciously excused my absence at various events as I chased my dreams,” she wrote. “My door to News remains open, but I’m excited to unlock some new ones and explore what’s on the other side.”

Telemundo 47 New York added Yilber Vega as a full-time reporter after he worked as a freelance journalist since June 2024. Before Vega working as a multiplatform journalist for CNN en Español in New York, covering breaking news and general assignments across the United States and around the world.

“Yilber has covered important court cases from Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman to Harvey Weinstein, as well as presidential elections and extreme weather events such as Superstorm Sandy. He is professional, hard-working and shares our station’s deep commitment to the community. We are thrilled to welcome Yilber into the Telemundo 47 family as our newest general assignment reporter,” said Alexa Rodriguez, Telemundo 47 news director, in a statement.

KSDK Meteorologist Anthony Slaughter has been fired from the St. Louis NBC affiliate after working at the station off and on since 2009.

“I’m pretty much as dumbfounded as you are,” Slaughter told Saint Louis Magazine. “I just got called into an office one day, and they just said we’re parting ways…It was a three-minute conversation.”

Malika Andrews joined ESPN’s WNBA Countdown as a co-host in the studio for the new Los Angeles-based program. Andrew’s appointment comes as ABC and ESPN create two broadcast desks for the pregame show.

Marrissa Armas joined CBS Dallas as a reporter for KTVT.

“All roads lead BACK to Texas— From my first TV market in EP to now DFW! After taking a self-imposed sabbatical, ya girl is back at it!” she wrote on social media. “I’ve officially joined the team at @cbsnewstexas, and I’m so excited for this opportunity! You already know the drill familia, send me your story ideas and let me know what spots I gotta hit up. I know we’re in for a wild ride.”

Antonia Hylton and Elise Jordan have been named by MSNBC as co-hosts of The Weekend and will be joining Amyan Mohyeldin and Catherine Rampell as co-hosts of the 6 p.m. ET edition of MSNBC’s new panel-driven program in early May.

After working as a correspondent for six years, Oren Liebermann will be CNN’s new Jerusalem bureau chief. Liebermann will manage the network's multi-platform operations in the region.

The assistant news director for Houston station KHOU, Chris Henao, announced he was laid off from the Tegna-owned station. Wiley Post is now the assistant news director for the station.

“Last Tuesday, I was laid off from KHOU 11. Now what?” Henao posted to LinkedIn. “Well, I’m choosing to see this as a blessing in disguise – an opportunity to embrace new challenges, step outside my comfort zone, and continue growing! Leaving behind an amazing newsroom full of talented journalists and friends is bittersweet, for sure.”

“If this marks the end of my 34 years in news, I will forever treasure every moment – so many stories, memories, friendships and accomplishments!” he wrote.

Marcel Clarke joined the El Paso ABC affiliate KVIA as the co-anchor of the weekday evening newscast. Clarke started her career in El Paso at KFOX/CBS4 as a morning reporter and moved to Kansas City and then Austin. Clarke has played a pivotal role in NBCLX, where she anchored the evening show for Peacock and anchored for a Black News Channel as the only Hispanic anchor.

“Marcel will be a fantastic complement to our team,” said KVIA general manager, Brenda De Anda-Swann. “She brings years of experience at the local and national level and is now coming back home ready to use her skills and talents to serve her community. She’s a great match for KVIA, and a great match for the Borderland.”

On Monday, April 7, Santiago Gallego joined Telemundo Chicago’s WSNS Noticiero Telemundo Chicago as a reporter and anchor. Gallego will report for the late morning, afternoon, and evening newscasts and help with anchoring duties throughout the week.

Matt Franklin, the main anchor for WJRT, announced his departure from the Allen Media-owned affiliate after 20 years. The veteran joined the station in 2004 and was named the main anchor in 2011.

“It’s, time to wind down an amazing 20 year career, and you won’t be here tomorrow,” he told co-anchors Angie Hendershot and JR Kirtek during his last show. “So this is our last show, together, as a trio here at 6:00. We’ve been together for 14 years. It’s hard to believe. And we shared so much on this desk, as Angie mentioned, and on this journey. And I will miss working alongside the both of you every single night.”

Co-anchors for PBS NewsHour, Amna Nawaz and Geoff Bennett, were named co-managing editors of the evening newscast.

Jake Flores was named sports director for the NBC affiliate KSBW in Monterey-Salinas, California, taking over for Drea Blackwell.

“For over a decade Drea has covered every major sporting event on the Central Coast — from the sidelines of the NFL to the 18th hole at Pebble Beach and her extensive coverage of high school sports — and she marks a tremendous legacy of service to our viewers,” said Williamson.

Cable: CBS News negotiated a deal to give employees protections against artificial intelligence with the Writers Guild of America East and Writers Guild of America West. Staffers who lose their jobs will have a 50% increase in their severance package, CBS News will meet with the guild semi-annually, and CBS has to notify the guild before implementing new AI features.

“We’re so proud to have fought for a strong contract that provides critical job protections to our members,” WGAE VP Beth Godvik said in a statement. “Our members work around the clock to bring viewers across the globe the news and we’re encouraged to have a contract that reflects our value.” 

Conservative news channel Newsmax shares dropped more than 70% on Wednesday, April 2. After debuting on the New York Stock Exchange, the stock tumbled 77.5% following a 2,230% surge in Newsmax’s first two days of trading. The conservative TV news outlet has seen its numbers rise with the election but still falls behind Fox News.

After losing its ABC affiliation, Berkshire Hathaway-owned station in Miami-Fort Lauderdale, WPLG, expanded its local news programming to increase its coverage of weekly love news and sports programming. This increase has expanded news operations to 93 hours per week.

“We have posted dozens of positions and more to come,” said WPLG President and CEO E.R. Bert Medina.

“WPLG is the legacy broadcaster in South Florida and we will continue to be the premiere local station in this market as we build the local broadcast model for the 21st century. In addition to the news expansion, we will create other live, local content throughout the year. Today we are announcing phase one of our expansion. There is much more to come,” Medina added.

Streaming: Netflix announced the possibility of video podcasts to add more content to the platform. The company has already produced several podcasts and hopes to bring these podcasts to Netflix by offering creators a platform for premium content.

“As the popularity of video podcasts grow, I suspect you’ll see some of them find their way to Netflix,” Sarandos said.

“You know, the question that’s out there is, is it premium? Well, some of it is, and we believe we have the best monetization model on the planet for premium storytelling,” Sarandos said. “I think we could help those creators reach an audience. Our model can also support more ambitious efforts for them, could help derisk them, unlike the kind of typical [user generated content] models.”

CNBC+ debuted on Apple TV and Roku platforms, becoming available for users on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. Subscribers are now able to access the global stream of the network’s business day programming and coverage from Europe and Asia, supplementing live coverage during primetime, overnight, and weekend hours. While streaming, users can access the CNBC ticker as a sidebar for additional content. 

Paramount’s board may settle Trump’s lawsuit over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris, despite legal experts seeing the case as weak. Trump claimed that the show deceptively edited an interview with Kamala Harris, despite experts calling the case baseless. Paramount is willing to negotiate. Executive producer Bill Owens resigned, citing compromised journalistic independence, while Shari Redstone supported the settlement but recused herself from related decisions.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order to end public funding of National Public Radio and PBS to stop “biased and partisan news coverage.” This order directs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to cease funding to the extent the law allows, but this can be challenged in court.

"Unlike in 1967, when the CPB was established, today the media landscape is filled with abundant, diverse, and innovative news options," the executive order reads. "Government funding of news media in this environment is not only outdated and unnecessary but corrosive to the appearance of journalistic independence."

Paula Kerger, CEO and president of PBS, said Friday: "The President’s blatantly unlawful Executive Order, issued in the middle of the night, threatens our ability to serve the American public with educational programming, as we have for the past 50-plus years. We are currently exploring all options to allow PBS to continue to serve our member stations and all Americans."
