This will allow users to add a note to their story that explains that the image has not been edited in the app. Users will also be able to long tap on a photo in their camera roll to share it without going through the normal editing process. big part of their social media platforms. which allows creators to test out content by sharing reels with people that don’t follow them. If the reel performs well, it will automatically be shared with users following the creator. 24 hours after the trial reel is posted, the poster can view the engagement metrics of the reel.

Meta is estimating that AI-generated characters will be a big part of their social media platforms. These characters will function similarly to the way accounts currently function on their social media platforms, and will include bios, profile pictures, and be able to share content. Connor Hayes, vice-president of product for generative AI at Meta, revealed that hundreds of thousands of these accounts exist, but they are private accounts currently as Meta plans to slowly introduce AI features.

“We expect these AIs to actually, over time, exist on our platforms, kind of in the same way that accounts do,” said Connor Hayes

LinkedIn has removed the ability for users to have Audio Events. Instead, users will have to use a third-party app such as Vimeo or StreamYard. LinkedIn Live will be available, however users will need to add a static image to have an audio-only event. Audio events scheduled before December 31st, 2024 will be able to perform as usual.

Grok, X’s AI assistant, will receive several updates to improve the assistant and make the feature more personal for users. A new setting on Android called Grok personalization will allow the user’s X data to be used to make Grok more individualized. On the X webpage, Grok might start giving the user Follow-up suggestions on posts. Users will also be able to upload text files to Grok which will allow users more ways to interact with the AI assistant.

Youtube

Online Video Platform: YouTube has made auto dubbing available to hundreds of thousands of channels in the YouTube Partner program. After creators upload their videos to YouTube, YouTube will detect the language, and generate dubbed versions in different languages. English videos can be dubbed into French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. Any videos in the listed languages will be dubbed into English.

Youtube has also introduced redesigns to Video settings, and Super Chats Goals Features on the Youtube app. They are testing three different designs with a small group of creators to determine which design will improve uploading from creators using the app. YouTube is also expanding its Super Chat Goal Feature to all eligible users, allowing creators to have more ways to monetize live streams. Creators will be able to have live goal trackers, countdown timers for goals, animations when goals are met, and multiple set goals within a single stream.

TikTok launched a new feature that allows users to save songs directly from their For You feed to their preferred music platform. This allows users to add music to their libraries without leaving the TikTok app. However, the feature is limited to music without copyright restrictions.

Industry: On December 16, TikTok requested an Injunction from the Supreme Court that would block the current TikTok ban until the court rules on the legality of TikTok. The Supreme Court announced it will review TikTok’s challenge against the federal law that will ban the app in the US on Jan. 19. The oral arguments are scheduled for Jan 10. According to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Donald Trump met with TikTok CEO Shou Chew at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club. The meeting happened hours after the President-Elect suggested that he might stop the impending ban on the app.

Venezuela’s top court has issued a $10 million fine to TikTok for “not implementing measures” to prevent 3 deaths allegedly related to viral challenges. Judge Tania D’Amelio said that TikTok acted in a neglectful manner, and gave the company eight days to pay the fine. She also ordered TikTok to establish an office in Venezuela to supervise content to make sure it complies with local laws. However as TikTok is owned by a Chinese company, it is not clear how the country will force TikTok to comply with the sentence. X is also currently blocked on Venezuela's state-owned internet provider Moviolent.
