YouTube creator Michelle Khare has successfully petitioned for her internet series Challenge Accepted to be on the ballot for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in its Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series category.

Having started as a content creator for Buzzfeed, Khare went on to create videos for her channel back in 2016. Challenge Accepted has been her most popular series yet, with Khare tackling a range of intense physical and mental endurance regimes, from military boot camp to training regimes for astronauts and firefighters.

As the writer, director and producer on the series, Khare has been applauded for the high cinematic quality of her work, with each episode being filmed in 4K, often up to a year’s worth of planning and preparation for each one.

Challenge Accepted has been credited for blurring the line between traditional television and digital content and proving that platforms like YouTube can deliver Emmy-caliber storytelling. On this basis, the series’ first feature-length episode, Challenge Accepted: 90 Day Black Belt, received its debut last year at the Montclair Film Festival, and has now been put forward to be on the ballot for the official nominees at this year’s Primetime Emmys.  It joins an increasing number of internet-born series to be put up against traditional television series in the running for these awards.

Nomination voting for the Emmys runs from Thursday, June 12, 2025, to Monday, June 23, 2025. The official nominations will be announced on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, and will be streaming live at 8:30 AM PST on the Emmys official website. The Awards ceremony itself will be held at the Peacock Theatre in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, September 14, 2025, and will air live on CBS, as well as streaming on Paramount+.
