30 Most Powerful Women in Reality Television: Variety on Dec. 18th announced their list of the 30 most influential women in Reality TV which included many prominent women of color from various shows and networks. From Bravo the women highlighted include Guerdy Abraira (Real Housewives of Miami), Garcelle Beauvais (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills), Gizelle Bryant (Real Housewives of Potomac and Peacock’s The Traitors), Kristen Kish (Top Chef), Phaedra Parks (Real Housewives of Atlanta/Married to Medicine/Peacock’s The Traitors and ABC’s Dancing With the Stars) and Dr. Simone White (Married to Medicine). Fox includes Yolanda Camp (Crime Scene Kitchen), Netflix’s Marrisa George (Love is Blind) and Allison Hammond (The Great British Baking Show), E!’s Kandy Muse (House of Villains) and ABC’s Jenn Tran (The Bachelor/The Bachelorette/Dancing With the Stars)

Docusoap: Netflix’s first same-sex romance docusoap, The Boyfriend, was greenlit for a second season after Japan ruled the ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional and violates citizens’ right to pursue happiness. While The Boyfriend has had success both domestically and internationally, the country stands as one of the only G7 nations that does not recognize same-sex marriages as legally bound. The show debuted July 9 and maintained a six-week presence in Netflix’s Weekly Top 10 series in Japan. The show will feature a new ensemble cast after allowing its former cast to receive a career boost for its cast, while Magumi, Chiaki Horan, Thelma Aoyama, drag queen Durian Lollobrigida, and Yoshimi Tokui return as hosts to guide the new cast’s journey.

Being the first same-sex romance reality show in Japan, we paid careful attention to ensure that the story is an authentic portrayal of these relationships. Competition Series: La Casa de los Famosos announces its fifth season to be an all-star season taking contestants from the past four seasons for redemption. Javier Poza and Jimena Gállego are set to host the competition show. Poza has hosted previous shows such as La Isla: Desafío Extremo, and Mira Quién Baila. La Casa de los Famosos and Big Brother VIP. La Casa de los Famosos: All Stars takes celebrities as they compete under one house under 24 hours of surveillance.
Hosts Rochelle and Marvin Humes will return to host season eight of the BBC’s One music quiz show The Hit List as contestants test their music knowledge for £10,000.

Big Brother UK announces the relocation of its house in the loom of their third season of Celebrity Big Brother. The house will be moved to West London and will follow a cast of celebrities as they compete on ITV2 and ITV4.

Sports: Tony Khan, AEW president announces that the new media rights deal is a plan for a “path to profit," allowing Dynamite and Collision to put more resources into growing the company to reach new viewership. AEW will continue to broadcast in the United Kingdom as ITV renews its deal with the company. This will be the sixth year of ITV continuing to show weekly episodes of AEW Dynamite every Friday Night and AEW Collison every Wednesday night on ITV4 and ITVX.

Mustafa Ali revealed WWE canceled WWE Plans. Ali was slated to be the NXT North Champion, but Dominik Mysterio was changed during NXT’s network negotiations. In 2019, Ali was favored and set to win Money in the Bank but was replaced by Brock Lesnar last minute by former WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

Industry: A federal judge ruled in favor of FuboTV against Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery against the planned launch and merger of Venu Sports, a joint sports streaming venture. Following this, Disney and FuboTv announced a merger in January 2025 that would combine Hulu Live TV and FuboTV. Disney acquired a 70% stake in the merger, positioning itself as a significant competitor to other online live platforms. With this new merger plans for Venu Sports have been discontinued.
Peter White releases a report on unscripted television producers which highlights a variety of reality television shows. Producers are eager to continue production and urge buyers to have bigger budgets and for buyers to be bolder in their investments.
ESPN and Disney teased Flagship, a new sports media giant that is a direct-to-consumer streaming service urging consumers to “tap in” to a variety of apps that will ultimately merge into Flagship. The app will hold multi-screen viewing, full integration with ESPN Bet, ticketing, merchandising, and fantasy content for fans debuting in time for the 2025 college and pro football seasons.
“Tap into the thing that becomes your thing, that becomes everything,” reads ESPN’s Malika Andrews, best known for her work on NBA Countdown and NBA Today, in a voiceover for one of the campaign’s ads. “Tap into an entire world of sports.”
The National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and Gray Media announced Dec. 6 the streaming of select games for free across the network for free on their television stations and on-air. Gray Station hosted the first free game on 20 markets between Denver and Colorado College on Dec. 13. Each game that airs on the Network will be streamed on Saturdays starting in January.
